Faculty
Lisa Schwarzkopf began her musical career as a pianist, studying at Interlochen and then completing her BA in Music Education at Western Illinois University and Music Therapy at DePaul University. She worked as a Music Therapist and supervised many music therapy students through their internship program. Lisa's career shifted to Healthcare Administration but she never lost sight of the importance of music in her life. This started with Bluegrass, introduced by her banjo-playing brother which led to years of playing Bluegrass festivals across the Midwest. Lisa then secured the Bass chair for Jackie Allen's Jazz Vocals class at the Old Town School of Folk Music which led to many Jazz combo 'gigs' including the distinct honor of co-founding the Chicago all-female Cuban Latin band 'Chi Chi's Cha Cha.' Lisa taught private piano lessons, served as adjunct faculty in Applied Acoustic Bass, and continues playing Bass with the Jazz Orchestra at the South Suburban College, as well as her long running weekly Piano/Bass duo gig at a local Chicago-area supper club. As a firm believer in adult learning, Lisa believes that music should be part of everyone's life - so keep learning, playing it and singing it!
